Core curriculum
In early 2020, Yoga Alliance launched a new advanced standard to replace our legacy standard that served as the basis for the Foundation Registered Yoga School (RYS) 200 certificate. This adaptation significantly increases the baseline of this certificate, provides consistency across RYS 200, and builds confidence in the quality and safety of the services our members provide to their communities.
Traditional RYS 200 Standard: YA standard developed and implemented by February 27, 2020. The RYS 200 program was originally requested to be upgraded by February 2022, however, due to the impact of COVID-19 on our community, the previously stated dates and deadlines are currently under review. As members develop, they will be informed of all relevant changes.
Enhanced RYS 200 Standard: As a result of a community-led standards review project, the enhanced standard was launched on February 27, 2020. All aspiring RYS 200 plans must now be applied according to these standards.
Within the high standards are shared core lessons, including pedigree, style and method. The curriculum includes a clear breakdown of the four education categories and 12 competencies, including the respective sub-competencies [?] - All these have to be tested [?] To integrate and apply knowledge.
Under these modern standards, each RYS also assesses the knowledge, skills and experience of its trainees before certifying them as a 200-hour teacher based on this core curriculum.
While the core curriculum requires 200 hours of teaching and training reflecting the above educational categories and competencies, RYS 200s are encouraged to provide additional hours as needed or required to expand their unique yoga focus. We value the individual perspectives and areas of interest of all Yoga School members and promote additional education to support their unique lineage, style or approach.
